Calling all Clevelanders and Ohioans with a taste for the macabre! Horror Cleveland is excited to announce our call for true ghost stories, cryptid encounters, and terrifying tales from the heart of Cleveland and Ohio. We want to hear your firsthand accounts or passed-down stories that will make our readers question reality and keep them awake at night. Whether you’ve had a run-in with a Lake Erie sea monster, a brush with a ghostly apparition, or a spine-chilling experience at a local haunt, we want to share your story with the world.
We are seeking true, scary and fantastic stories that showcase the eerie side of Cleveland. Your story can be anywhere from 50 to 15,000 words – as long as it’s authentic and sends shivers down our readers’ spines. We’re looking for stories that capture the essence of Cleveland or Ohio’s dark history and the supernatural entities that may still linger in our city.
While we’re primarily interested in stories from Cleveland residents, we also welcome tales from those who have visited our city and experienced something truly haunting. If you have a Cleveland-based scary story to share, we want to hear from you!

- Theme: True scary stories from Cleveland/Ohio. From the Zoo to Lake Erie, and from the streets of downtown to the suburbs, we want stories that capture the eerie essence of our city.
- Deadline for the Halloween 2024 issue: September 15, 2024. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of our debut print issue, which will feature a special section dedicated to true Cleveland scary stories!
- Year-round submissions: We accept submissions for our website throughout the year, so even if you miss the print deadline, your story can still find a home on Horror Cleveland.
- Cleveland residents: If you’re a Cleveland resident with a scary story to share, be sure to mention it in your submission – we want to give a voice to our local storytellers.

- Rights: By submitting your story, you grant Horror Cleveland the right to publish your story on our website and in our print magazine. You retain all ownership rights to your story.
